I prefer Gahwa more than any Korean restaurants in Korean town.
My hidden gem spot.
The complimentary radish kimchi is just so good.
Plz visit and try many dishes.
Ga Hwa is known for their authentic Korean dishes. The menu is not big but everything is well-made. Service is prompt and courteous. We ordered: bibimbap (veggie and beef mixed rice), yoogaejung (spicy shredded beef soup), seafood pancake, rice cake and dumplings soup.
As someone obsessed with seollongtang, I was excited to try Gahwa after reading online recommendations. The restaurant feels very mom-and-pop-ish and as if it has been in business for a long time/is family run. The service is quick and no-nonsense.
They provided us with ssamjang, marinated jalapenos, napa kimchi, raw napa, and radish kimchi before the meal.
I ordered the dogani-tang (Ox knee), and I seasoned it myself with the pepper and salt provided (which is pretty standard). With this dish, I felt like compared to other places I have been to they gave an average amount of meat. They gave less noodles than I was used to, which I personally don't mind. The soup is served with a bowl of rice.
I think for this area, the seollongtang was great. Definitely one of the best that I've had in NY so far; However, I would say that I've had better before.
I will definitely be coming back to try dishes like bibimbap in the future.
